“Who are the Rat Queens? A pack of booze-guzzling, death-dealing battle maidens-for-hire, and they're in the business of killing all gods' creatures for profit. It's also a darkly comedic fantasy series starring Hannah the Rockabilly Elven Mage, Violet the Hipster Dwarven Fighter, Dee the Atheist Human Cleric and Betty the Hippy Hobbit Thief. This modern spin on an old school genre is a violent monster-killing epic that is like Buffy meets Tank Girl in a Lord of the Rings world on crack!”
Oh Rat Queens, how I love thee. Let me ask you:
- Do you like badass, female characters in your reading?
- Do you like seeing these badass chicks kick some ass?
- Do you like/play D&D or other like games?
Then you need to be reading this comic book. The characters are so awesome and I love how "real" they are, even if they're fictional races with magic powers. Like Lumberjanes, this comic book does a great job at writing female protagonists with depth and variety which whom women can actually identify. These two series are a breath of fresh air in the world of comic books.
And don't think that a male reader can't get into Rat Queens. It is well written, funny, and full of action (in more ways than one, wink wink). No matter what your gender, or what gender you may identify with, I am confident that you will enjoy Rat Queens.
